When Cole Hunter, a 27-year-old history student from Chicago with a penchant for the occult, begins his semester abroad in London with his best friend, Luna Franklin, his biggest problem is his shyness. However, his previously quiet life changes overnight when he is attacked and transformed by a real vampire in an old crypt during a study trip to Dracula's castle.

Cole learns that he is a long-lost descendant of Vlad III Draculea and thus comes from a long line of vampires. While Cole indulges his bloodlust, his college friend Malcolm is attacked and crippled by a street gang. On a quest for revenge, Cole stumbles upon a connection to a secret organization that searches the world for ancient weapons with divine powers.

Together with his godfather and his godfather's colleague Lara Walker, Cole goes on a journey through parts of Europe to find out what’s behind it. In the process, he uncovers secrets that not only shed a different light on vampires but also reveal an ancient danger for all of humanity. Cole must learn to control his new powers and overcome his fears to stand in the way of this hidden threat.
